56Can I really learn SEO?
This covers some of the most basic steps that need to be taken to run your own effective SEO campaign. This is just an overview of some of the barriers to entry and strategies that will help grow or kill a website’s credibility and relevance.
You may or may not have asked yourself this question, but if you start looking around online for information on SEO, you’ll understand why I posed the question.
If you’re just starting your first website or working on your 10 year old website, there will be one resounding element that will be your guide: link building.
If you can have the mind set of a Texan, where you are always ‘fixin’ to do something then you’ll do just fine. Because SEO is repetitive in nature there are a few questions you can ask yourself to see how serious you are about optimizing your website.
-Do I have a written/typed plan of what I will do to optimize my site?
If you talk to any good SEO company/consultant they will tell you that they make a plan of attack for each website they are optimizing. This is a month to month approach for what kinds of link building will need to be done.
If SEO is time sensitive, then your plan should be thought out at least 6 months out. When you understand what kinds of link building you should be doing, your plan of attack will look a lot like wash, rinse, repeat.
-Do I seriously have the time to do all this?
There should really be no explination here, but the question must be asked. If you thought buying a domain and getting some content up or joining an affiliate program that does drop shipping took too much time, then you’re in for a treat.
There is a reason everyone has their own website or blog, because the barrier of entry is low, but only the strong optimize from day one. This is good news for you because you understand this.
-Does my website bring something to the table?
You might have the prettiest website of the ball, and the most links pointing to it, but do you have something of value on the site? Lets get into the minds of Google. They want their searchers to have the best possible experience when they are looking for something. If you can prove that to Google (through link building) and providing something of value, then you will find yourself on the first page.
My hope is that this has given way to some serious thought about taking on your own SEO campaign. The truth is anyone can figure out how to optimize their website, but it will take a real desire. If you’ve been able to answer the question Can I Really Learn SEO? Then your next step is to take some action in developing your plan of attack. I want to take a practical approach with you that will be easy to understand and results driven. Let me know if you’re keeping up along the way.
